This photo by Jose Fidelino Vera Hernandez, via the Associated Press, shows a car hitting a group of bicyclists about 15 minutes into a bicycle race Sunday in northern Mexico.AP says one person was killed and 14 others were injured in the incident.
Here's what happened during Bike Tour Matamoros-Playa Bagdad, according to The Brownsville Herald:
The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, just 15 minutes and seven miles into the race, after the cyclists began their ride to Playa Bagdad, Reforma reported. ... The cyclists allegedly were struck by Juan Campos, 29, who drove a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis. Lopez was driving drunk and under the influence of drugs, Matamoros newspapers reported in their Monday editions.
