2008 in Review

So, what did I do this year you ask? Of course you didn't ask, but I thought I could fantasize about all the people who read my blog... HA! Anyway, I digress... as usual.

The year in review - Actually I would like to have amnesia for this particular year - is that possible? But wait, then I would have missed the incredible history made during the election... damn, can't have it both ways can you?

Here's some highlights from my year:

1. I wrote my first business plan - twelve to sixteen hours [a day] over the course of five months - writing, rewriting, writing, rewriting, reading, writing, rewriting, reading, researching... my God! I think you get the picture...

2. I became an official Still Photographer on a TV Show - what a blast! I totally love being on the set - in front of or behind the camera - it's where I belong!

3. I participated in five art exhibitions and sold art work at most of them!

4. Two of my photos went into a permanent art collection. Woo Hooo!

5. I continued to audition for film and TV - landed an extra part without an audition - which actually paid pretty good.

6. Had the worst car accident of my life - lucky to be alive! Now drive the cutest Saturn Vue that gets WAY better gas mileage! Yahoo! [silver lining]

7. Attended the "Sex in the City" movie opening night party with VIPs! What a blast!

8. Received a star on the Walk of Fame with fellow Actors in Hollywood! Very COOL!

9. Opened a successful online shop for my art.

10. Successfully bartered my way to many wonderful experiences!

11. Rekindled a relationship with my God-Daughter. I love her so much!

12. Participated in a national photo walk that kicked my butt!

13. Swam 4 to 5 times a week during the summer! Aaaahhhhhh!

14. Started playing Tennis after the pool closed! Still looking for a partner to play with regularly.

15. Traveled to southern California to be with my Mom and Pop for two weeks! Good visit indeed!

16. Bought a new laptop that I LOVE!!! Macbook ROCKs!!!

17. Completed the largest painting (on canvas) ever!

Wow, when I look at it like that, maybe the year wasn't as bad as I thought - maybe I've been dwelling on the negative instead of the positive. 2009 is going to be the best! Business is BOOMING! Time to paint something even BIGGER! Would love to do some murals again!

Happy New Year Y'all!

Jake & Salavan

So my cousins son Garret brings out his snake thinking I would freak out... SURPRISE! I'm a girl and I'm not afraid!!! The next thing I know he comes in the room with a dragon... again... I'm not afraid, instead the question is, let me see closer... fooled you!
I'll have to admit, I was very surprised to watch the rest of the thanksgiving guests [men, women, girls, and boys] run for different corners of the house when Jake and Salavan entered the room... hmmm, I'll have to remember that...

It doesn't happen very often that my Pop will let me take his photo. But he momentarily forgot himself with a little silliness. Isn't he CUTE!!!?

President Barack Obama!

My heart feels full!

A Danish Tabloid has Decided

A fellow photographer who lives in Europe sent this to me. This Danish tabloid has already decided that Obama is only a few hours away from the White House.

Seal Beach - My HOME town!

They say you can never go home... don't know who "they" are, but every once in awhile I go there... I spent an afternoon walking around the main street in Seal Beach. A visitor in a place I frequented as a child. Going to the beach is always a treat for me. Always a feeling of "re-charging".

Click on the photo to see more detail, and to see the war ship in the distance on the right.

Some beachy chimes in a main street shop.

I shot this in Hollywood. We were driving around headed toward my favorite restaurant "Chin Chin". I saw this and shot it through the window of my parents car. I love Apple marketing...

James Cagney Room

While attending a Screen Actors Guild Board of Directors meeting in Hollywood, CA, I snapped this quick photo behind the meeting room. It's amazing what you can find on your way to the ladies room. I took a handful of shots, this one is my favorite. You can see James Cagney's Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as his portrait off in the distance [depth of field].

Debate ' 08 Nashville, Tennessee

It was pretty exciting here in Nashville tonight to have the '08 Presidential Debate. My cousin Leslie and I went down to check it out to see what we could see... here are a few of the shots I created. For those of you that are McCain/Palin supporters... I tried to find more supporters for y'all, but they were hard to find, so please don't think that I was being more favorable to Obama/Biden. I am working to build my editorial portfolio, so I tried to be as fair as I could, but it was impossible at this particular venue...

Mismesh of the day (& night)

Well I had to swerve to get over to take this photo. This is so perfect for how I feel with pretty much EVERYTHING I do in my life... it just takes tooooooo long!

We attended the Untitled Art Exhibit this evening, I saw this woman's shoes and socks and had to capture... what do you think?

Some were dressed up for the "Naked Carnivale" - the title to this show!

New Biz Cards

I'm in love with my new [expensive] business cards. It's really cool when someone asks me for a card - I tell them sure, pick one... it's interesting to see what they pick - it's almost like I'm giving them a small piece of art - then again, I guess I am! The card stock is nice too - the info on the back is simple and to the point.

Thanks for the suggestion Missy!

Kyle's Debut

My friend [and client] Kyle Brooks played out on Saturday with his group "the Rounders". Kyle hired me to take action shots during the performance. We were at Richard's Cafe in Goodlettesville near Nashville Tennessee... just down the road from Barbara Mandrell's gorgeous log mansion (where Gone Country is shot for CMT).Their were some challenges during that shoot because of some color gels above the stage area... a reddish orange cast was my enemy the whole shoot. Turning the photos black and white takes care of this perfectly.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with Kyle where he informed me that Saturday nights performance was his FIRST any time any where... I was stunned! I thought for sure he had been doing this for years... I would have NEVER known!

I am really proud for him!!!

Titans Pre-Season Game

Enjoyed a pre-season game in the Vanderbilt private box. An awesome way to see the game - air conditioning, bathrooms, food. It was GREAT! And the Titans won!

We Miss You Bill

One year ago today we lost a very dear friend that we think of EVERY day! We stopped by the cemetery to just spend a few moments of reflection, and to see the headstone. We truly miss you Bill!
